About My Clients
Hello! My name is Michela and I provide individual counseling to adults who struggle with trauma, chemical addiction, and mental health to live a life of recovery. I work with folks who are either pursuing a recovery lifestyle and/or family members of those experiencing chemical addiction/recovery. I love working with clients who are open and internally motivated to get better.
My Background and Approach
I am both a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) and a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP). I have a background working as an advocate in domestic violence and sexual assault centers, a social worker in inpatient mental health facilities, and as both a case manager and a counselor in residential treatment centers for dual diagnoses (chemical addiction/mental health) providing individual, group, and family therapy. As a certified Dance/Movement Therapy (R-DMT), I utilize a combination of traditional therapeutic and movement-based exercises to help you identify and release physical or emotional blocks and reintegrate mind and body (and spirit, if that"s your path) in order to help you to restore your core sense of self. I am also trained in EMDR.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in maintaining a collaborative relationship with my clients—working together to identify the challenges you would like to work on, the methodologies and approaches you are comfortable using, and developing a treatment plan together. This is your healing process, and I believe you are the expert of your own self and experiences. I also look to you for feedback regarding what appears to be working, as well as what does not appear to have a positive impact on your recovery so that we may readjust as needed. Dance has been a significant part of my life and has taught me a lot about connecting with my body— not just understanding the way it works but also as a tool of how I relate to myself and to the world. It is my goal to help translate that into an experience that is meaningful to you through empathy and movement stories that you relate to.
